Learn to Speak Spanish - Here Are Some Strategies for Learning Fast
Recent advances in audio and video technology, adbances in language-learning methods and changes in lifestyles have made learning another language much easier and more affordable. However, you still must adapt to the new methods and learn to make the most of them in order to learn rapidly and in a time-efficient manner.
With today's language learning courses you don't need to go to a school, sign up for classes, keep to the teacher's schedule or any of the other awkward and time-consuming requirements of traditional education. You download the materials and can easily carry them around with you on your laptop computer, iPod or CD player.
When and where you study your language lessons is completely up to you. The same for speed. You can go fast or slow, repeat difficult or important segments as many times as you wish or need to in order to get the lesson down pat.
But you will need to make some time to study the lessons. Here are some tips on how to make that easier.
1. After you have downloaded the materials to your computer, make copies that will be portable so you can easily carry them with you wherever you go. An iPod or similar hand held audio-visual device or a laptop computer are ideal for this. The necessary programs are just a few megabytes of data and don't weigh anything! So they are easy to carry.
Then when you have spare time, commuting, traveling, or waiting anywhere, just plug in your earphone button and switch on! The interactive parts can be practiced while you are driving (if you are by yourself in the car or if your passengers don't mind... they might even want to join in!) or any time you find yourself alone.
Waiting in your doctor's office? Don't read those old magazines, learn Spanish! Walking for exercise, practice your Spanish as you walk! Nothing good on TV? No problem, take a Spanish lesson. The opportunities are there, just be prepared and watch for them!
Generally speaking, you want to study your Spanish lessons when you can concentrate on what you are doing. So don't try it in city or short trip traffic. Wait for the monotonous miles on the freeway when the driving is easy and you can relax a bit and don't need to concentrate your full attention on driving.
2. If you are going to be in any foreign country, I urge you to get a downloadable course in the language spoken there immediately and begin to learn and practice. Even if you can only practice on the plane going there! Just a few words can make a tremendous difference.
If you are going to be in Latin America, you can learn enough Spanish in a couple of hours to help you immeasureably. Little things like, "Que es eso?" (What is this? and point! ) to find out the name of a thing or "DONday esTA" (Where is...?) can make life much easier for you.
You will find that the attitude of local people towards you changes greatly if you speak just a few words. They appreciate your trying, feel flattered that you are trying to learn their language, and will go out of their way to help you.
Also, going through language lessons while you are there in a country where the new language is spoken, will let you get immediate practice and application of what you are learning. It is easy to learn languages in the here and now, when you are using them. Much easier than it is in the abstract when you learn it and do not have any immediate application of what you have learned.
Also, you won't be nearly as tempted to procrastinate, because the immediate clear need for the language will press you to study and learn fast!
